Why I'm on the Humane Society Board . . . I have always loved animals and have wanted to help. For years my help was limited to financial donations to shelters and animal organizations across the country. Although I attended many fund raisers I didn't allow myself to visit the Rock Springs Humane Society in fear that I would want to adopt everyone. Then one day in 2004 after the death of two of my elderly dogs, Toni, a very good friend of mine and employee at Rock Springs Humane Society, called to inform me that they had just taken in the perfect dog for me. The next day I arrived at the shelter where I met Baby (I have since renamed her Hope) and after a couple of visits between Noel (my other dog), Baby and myself; Noel and I adopted Hope. After that I started helping Toni at the shelter on holidays so that others could have the day off and soon after I was helping Toni and Kate (Director of Rock Springs Humane Society) with fund raisers and remote adoptions. I guess you could say I was hooked. I started attending Board meetings and eventually became a Board member and in May resumed the position of Secretary.
Melinda Baas ~ Treasurer
Melinda Baas has been involved with the Rock Springs Humane Society since her dog Shasta picked out her family as her permanent home in 2000. Shasta had come into the Rock Springs Humane Society just that day and was terrified of the noise and smells and hid under a desk. When Melinda's husband came in she crawled out into his lap and has been part of the family ever since. Melinda became involved with the Humane Society first as a volunteer and then was on the Board for two years before moving away. Since she came back to Wyoming in 2007 she was coaxed back in by friends and in 2009 was elected to the Board where she currently serves as Treasurer. In her time away from the Shelter she works for the YWCA Big Brothers Big Sisters program and encourages her matches to spend time with the animals at the Shelter. She also has started participating in Rescue transports to get dogs across the country form shelters to permanent homes.

Mike Bauer ~ Board Member
Mike Bauer is the Manager of Mental Health Services at Southwest Counseling and has been active on community boards and various state task force committees for 25 years. He is the proud owner of two Golden Retrievers and has been on the Humane Society Board since 2000.
